Authors: Rosalind Cranor, Steve Templeton, Ted Young. Published by Overmountain Press.

If you can only own one Elvis collecting book this is the one . This 400 page book is the bible for non-record Elvis collectors. The strength of the book is the 100s of black and white photographs. Virtually every U.S. produced item from 1955 to 1977 is listed in this book. In addition to their own extensive collections, the authors have relied on numerous collectors to provide photographs of super rare items from their collections. Many collectors would have never seen or known of the existance of these rare items without this book. The weakness of the book is in its valuation of the items, mostly due to the age of the book, and a lack of coverage of items priduced outside the U.S.

The Official Price Guide to Elvis Presley Records and Memorabilia

Author: Jerry Osborne. Published by House of Collectibles

Despite its deceptive title this book is almost exclusively devoted to Elvis' records. The few pages devoted to memorabilia are completely lacking in value. The prices bear no resemblence to reality. If anyone can find 1954 Elvis concert posters for $500 please let me know. The pricing in the extensive coverage of Elvis' records are just as out of touch with reality. This time they are wildly high. Perhaps the author is trying to create an inflated market to unload his own collection. On the plus side this book presents the most extensive listing of Elvis records and their numerous printings available. Also valuable is the picturing of every known variation of RCA labels used on Elvis' releases.
